Winter in Maine can be tough. Days are short, the cold seems never ending, and every beautiful snowfall is followed by a thaw, which yields mud, grey slush and salt everywhere, then a sudden freeze bringing ice and punchy crusted snow. And the cycle continues. But sometimes enough is enough, and despite the biting cold wind, or the pellets of freezing rain, you have just got to get out!
So there is a special little cabin in the woods, not too far from home, which is the perfect little getaway for solitude and spending time with nature and the dogs. It’s just a weekend escape, but sometimes a girl’s just gotta get out with her huskies – canicross backpacking style!

Note: Husky hookup is not always glamorous. Actually it never is.

Doggy backpack and towline hookup.

Overnight backpack for me.

And we’re off down the trail! The dogs know what to do.

Arriving at the cabin.

Enjoying the moment.

Loving my good boy.

Making dinner.

‘Til next time! 🙂
